Oxygen Magazine Review
Training masks are pretty cool in general. The idea behind the mask training technique is when oxygen is restricted, as when breathing through the mask, your heart and lungs have to work slightly harder. So when you take the mask off your body may be more efficient, resulting in improved athletic performance. Masks were originally marketed for altitude-prep, but now have become more mainstream. Upon opening the box, the Training Mask 3.0 looks impressive. All black, sleek design, high quality materials and the mask part itself looks really durable. It did take some configuring and adjusting, but finally got the mask and strap fitted properly. Our first venture out was a run. Along with a hint of claustrophobia and a few odd looks from passersby, it’s comfortable and stays in place for the most part during high impact workouts. It did take some getting used to for sure. Was a bit cumbersome along with the hat and ear buds also worn when running. The next workout day consisted of a hike. Much more enjoyable, partly because the workouts are lower intensity, of course. The third trial workout was weight training and agility consisting of plyometric and jump rope intervals. The mask definitely, and obviously, makes the workout harder.

As far as training masks go, the Training Mask 3.0 is high quality and well-designed. Spent most workouts at the 3x setting, with a few trial intervals at 0x and 6x. General impression is it takes some getting used to, the mask technique definitely isn’t suitable for everyone, but it was interesting to explore as a training technique.

“I’m always looking for tools to get better at racing and the Training Mask 3.0 is a true game changer. A few years ago, I started using elevation training masks but I found that many of them had awkward fits or made it too hard to breathe. What I really like about the Training Mask 3.0 is that the mask is comfortable and fits nicely so I don’t need to adjust it and forget them I’m even wearing it, which really makes a difference to me. Another big difference the Training Mask 3.0 offers that others do not is the custom vented face plate. By being able to adjust the intensity, I can adjust my air flow to how I feel. Being able to adjust the vent when I am breathing hard is really nice and it allows me to wear it while I run, cycle, lift and do obstacle training. The Training Mask 3.0 is a tool I will continue to use for training and will use with my clients for better breathing and performance!”
“When I first saw the Training Mask 3.0 I honestly thought ‘not another heavy, bulky expensive breathing mask’ that I’d use once and then toss in my closet — never to use it again. So my expectations were not high.
The training mask ended up being light weight, compact and easy to store in my gym bag. The mask fit nice and snug, comfortable with a removable washable strap. After 10 minutes of working out with it on, I forgot I was even wearing it. The mask is easy to adjust intensity and air flow with a simple flick of a small switch. This mask doubled the intensity of my workout, making me reach my threshold of exhaustion in half the time it would normally take when doing cardio. This mask can be a game changer for the athlete, fitness fanatic, or just someone that wants to take their training and cardiovascular strength to the next level. I highly recommend the Training Mask 3.0 for anyone that is ready to take their training to the next level.”
